The last two decades have seen the trend move away from the use of copper as the material of choice for hot and cold water pressure pipes towards newer, easy to use, plastic materials. AEI Compounds have been at the forefront of this change and have been supplying silane crosslinkable polyethylene, commonly called PEX-b, to the single layer and multilayer pipe markets as well as the underfloor heating markets for over 20 years.
Our products, being based on the Sioplas silane crosslinking route, are able to be processed on standard polyethylene extrusion equipment with little modification and extra capital investment. Crosslinking of the pipe is conducted post extrusion in a steam atmosphere or by pumping hot water around the pipe.
SX720: SX488 graft and catalyst system is suitable for most applications and has been approved for most European standards including BS7291 Class S and DIN 16892 and is also approved for contact with potable water, in accordance with the requirements of WRAS, AFNOR (France), AENOR (Spain) and DVGW (Germany). In addition the product is also listed in the USA against the NSF standards 14 and 61.
SX734: CM488 as well as being listed in the NSF standards also has now has full listing for chlorine resistance to Protocol P171, meeting the requirements for both Traditional Domestic (T) and Domestic Continuous Re-circulation (R).
Where greater flexibility is required SX704:CM488 is suggested and has been approved to many of the same European standards.
For injection moulding of fittings SX703:CM488/6 is recommneded for use as a low cost alternative to engineering polymers such as polysulphone (PSU) and polyacetal (POM).

Please note that these silane crosslinkable grades are shown as a system with a graft and a catalyst. These are normally used in the ratio of 95:5. The most common catalyst masterbatch is shown in the table but there are others available which helps us to more accurately match your property requirements and processing conditions.
